The International Partnership for Dogs (IPFD) is a non-profit organization leading a global, multi-stakeholder effort to enhance dog health, well-being, and welfare. IPFD is about information sharing and collaboration, for the best of all dogs worldwide.

We

  • curate and share information on canine genetic tests, breed-specific health strategies and relevant new research,
  • work for harmonization of genetic testing, together with researchers and testing laboratories,
  • facilitate collaboration between different stakeholders in various areas of dog health, and
  • highlight the good work of our Partners.

Harmonization of Genetic Testing

IPFD is improving the standardization of, and access to, robust genetic testing to support improved health and a sustainable future for all breeds of dogs. Our portal contains a wide array of information on genetic testing providers (labs), general genetic tests, specific genetic tests by breed, and genetic counseling services. You can search our genetics databases by breed, genetic test, disease, and lab.

In addition to the database, there are many HGTD Database Resources and an ever-increasing bank of Genetic Counseling Resources (links below). Also, IPFD contributors frequently blog on genetic testing issues, so you can set your custom feed to feature that material and check out the HGTD & Genetic Testing blog (link below).

Interested in adding your canine genetic canine resources to DogWellNet.com? Contact us at info@ipfdogs.com. Are you associated with a Genetic Test Provider and want to participate? Contact our Project Director Aimee Llewellyn-Zaidi.

IPFD Breeds Database

The IPFD Breeds Database includes basic breed information as well as videos, standards, health strategies and data, populations data, links to national and international breed clubs, and more. Material collected and curated by IPFD Team experts and, wherever available, submitted by collaborating breed clubs. More collaborators very welcome! Contact us at info@ipfdogs.com to participate.

International Dog Health Workshops

information collaboration action graphic.pngThe International Dog Health Workshops (IDHWs) are the signature event of the IPFD. These generally biennial events bring together decision-leaders from international stakeholder groups including kennel clubs, other cynological organizations, breed clubs, academia, veterinary organizations, welfare groups, and regulatory bodies as well as individual breeders, judges, and others. The 1st International Dog Health Workshop (IDHW) was organized by the Swedish Kennel Club (SKK) and held in June 2012 in Stockholm. The 2nd IDHW was co-hosted by IPFD and the German Kennel Club (VDH) and held in Dortmund, Germany in February 2015. The 3rd IDHW was co-hosted by IPFD and French Kennel Club (SCC) in Paris in Spring 2017. The 4th IDHW was co-hosted by the Kennel Club in Windsor, UK in 2019. IPFD is responsible for the International Dog Health Workshops and partners with other organizations who manage meeting logistics.

IPFD Virtual Meetings

MicrosoftTeams-image (6).pngSince 2019 we have been watching global developments with cautious optimism that we’ll soon be in a position to determine a date/location/format for the next in-person IDHW. In the meantime, we have been developing online meeting events to keep important collaborations going. Based on recent discussions with key stakeholders in canine genetic testing, three topics have been identified as being important to current conversations: Standardizing Genetic Reports, Validation, and Genetic Diversity. Specific challenges have been identified for each of these topics, and short online meetings will be held taking each challenge in turn to agree on goals and outcomes, and - as a community - to undertake post-workshops actions to implement necessary actions. Specialty forums (which house materials and resources) for the Virtual meetings are available to meeting participants only. Selected workshop materials have been made available after the events - see links below.  Please contact Aimee Llewellyn for further information on IPFD's Virtual Meetings.
