Details
This condition is a problem in most large dog breeds, but especially so in Great Danes. In this breed it has been suggested that up to 37% of adult dogs will experience an incident at some point in their lives, and the condition may be life threatening if not treated immediately. Researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center have identified three risk alleles in three different genes associated with GDV in Great Danes. Each of them alone increases the odds of a GDV event by at least twofold. Vetgen has licensed the test for these risk alleles and may now offer it to the Great Dane community. [From VetGen website]
