The Pug Breed Council supports Pug Health testing / The KENNEL CLUB & CAMBRIDGE RESPIRATORY FUNCTION GRADING SCHEME
The 5 Star Health Schemehas been developed to include known health issues within the breed, as well as addressing concerns highlighted by the Kennel Club Breed Watchand included in the Breed Health and Conservation Plan. As well as addressing the main issues, it also highlights the Body Condition Score , as obesity is a big problem within the breed and is a contributing factor to Brachycephalic Airway Obstruction Syndrome (BOAS).

For Assured Breeders: Kennel Club and University of Cambridge Respiratory Function Grading Scheme - the scheme tests for breathing ability (BOAS) and should be used for all breeding stock over the age of 12 months, and repeated every two years, for as long as the dog is being used for breeding. A number of regional assessors for the scheme can be found on The Kennel Club website. used for breeding. A number of approved cardiologists (vets specially trained in heart conditions) have been appointed to carry out heart grading on dogs, with a list of these available on The Kennel Club website.
