Details
Narcolepsy causes extreme sleepiness in dogs. Signs include: dogs unable to maintain long stretches of wakefulness, falling asleep faster than normal dogs, buckling of hind legs and dropping neck (cataplexy) in response to positive stimui (such as treats). Age of onset from 4 weeks - 6 months. Narcolepsy is not considered progressive or life-threatening. However, attacks of cataplexy can be very distressing for owners.

Application in the Breed
Carriers may be bred to normal animals (N/nar x N/N) . Offspring should be tested before breeding . No breeding of two carriers (N/nar x N/nar) nor of affected animals (nar/nar). Sleepy during the day, drop suddenly from wakefulness into REM sleep, and can become cataleptic when startled
